Reflections in Solitude

If you are there on my path in the night
I would consider sharing a silent moment with you.
But do not ask to join my solitude
it is mine to walk into
there is much to ponder and I am already weary
I will not suffer your intrusion

My time a meditation on koi and water lilies
sorting out confusion, interpreting signs
Life unfolds when the sky is rosy from a dying sun
and insects change the sound to night
My being is subtly changed
Light alters time, blood speaks, spirits move
a visitation of tears and sudden clarity.

I will not suffer your intrusion
You would send me home
to the washing and my cooking pots.

Presence of a Master

A man familiar with his instrument
knows how to tease, to tickle
He licks melodies from the notes on the right
taps out a rhythm on the left of the blues
touches my cheek gently
brushes a leaf from my hair
and returns to a cyclone
A sudden drum strike promises war
his wounded victim screams in agony
Belly full of bile he pulls out snakes
boulders and broken glass
lays them at my feet
Cool clear water eases the pain
He shares it all
Unity of spirit
His is a love song dreaming

New Being

You are the future my friend
the promise of morning rising with the dawn
Yesterday is no more
Sea foam on the beach
the ocean remembers the wave
Do you know the land of your mother?
Sing her a song of flowing rivers,
through forests, under deserts, over stones.
Dance for your father’s people
two-step around the fire
in a trance you greet the child of your unborn son.
become a dove in your sister’s house
Your future casts no shadow
to hold you
to time
or place
or space.

Oriental Plaza

Shopping
Children chase birds
Robed men stroll
A woman re-packing
In the luggage shop
Brass and glass gleam
One white family
Quietly devours samosas
